Recently my husband and I have had a couple of date nights that cost us less than $40!! We use one of these certificates for dinner (we went to Iron Chef one night and Cask and Cleaver on another). Our dinner costs $25-$30. Then we go to the movies at the Terra Vista 6 in Rancho Cucamonga. Night movies are $6.50 per person, so $25 for dinner and $13 for a movie= $38.

Check your newspaper! On the front of my San Bernardino Sun this morning there was a coupon for $10 off any purchase of $20 or more. This coupon is good on July 31 and August 1.

Last time this coupon was out I was able to get king size sheets for $10. They had Kohls brand "the big one" sheets for $19.99 and I used the coupon. This was my first time buying these sheets and I love them!! It is hard to find eastern king sheets, and these fit great.

Are you a bzz agent? If not, you should join! Bzz agent is a word of mouth network. They give you products to try, you try the product, share information about it with people you know and then report back to the website. When you are trying a product, you are participating in a "campaign." During the campaign you are supposed to submit two reports on how you shared info on the product with people that you know. In exchange for the report you get 50 points into your mypoints account.

I am currently participating in the Bic Soleil Bella campaign. I received 3 razors. I am using 1, I gave one to my sister and one to my daughter. They also sent me about 10 $3 coupons that I am sharing with my family and friends.

I have been using this razor for around a month and I really like it! Here are some things I like:

I have been using this for a month and it still has lots of life in it (perfect for a cheapskate!)

Today at Stater Brothers I saw a sign in front of the Famous Dave's bbq sauce that said if you buy 2, $1.50 will automatically be deducted at checkout.

My husband is very particular about bbq sauce and will only use this one (not the kind that I have 50 free bottles of). This bbq sauce is $2.89 which is very expensive for my cheapskate blood.

So I bought 2, and used the $1.50 off 2 coupon from the 6/21 Smart Source. Final price $2.79 for 2 which is basically like buy one get one free and probably the cheapest it will ever be.

CVS strategy

I have come up with a strategy for being able to save my ECBs until ECBs are back in California.

I spent all of my ECBs, and then returned the items. Since I paid with ECBs, I can't get money back so the cashier has to return the items and put them on a gift card. Now I have my ECBs on a CVS gift card that doesn't expire. Now I am not so bitter. I'm still missing the deals the rest of the country gets, but now I don't have to start over.

Here is another trick that I just learned a couple days ago: Keep scanning your card to get coupons at the price check machine. Today I scanned my card 3 times and got 12 coupons. You never know when these coupons will come in handy. I used to only scan my card once, I hate to think of all the coupons I have missed out on.

San Bernardino shoppers: Bittersweet nightmare come true!!!

You all know I hate the manager Diego at the San Bernardino store, good news I heard the employees say that he was transferred to a Fontana store- yay!!

I also hate the cashier Sharon!! She has a real problem with me getting stuff free, she acts like I'm robbing HER. So today I went to CVS to make my return and get my spent ECBs onto a money card. The cashier doesn't know what to do, because I got something for free and now I want to return it. I told her to just put it on a money card, but she has to have "manager permission." So she gets on the loud speaker and says "Sharon come to the front." I thought oh, there is a new manager named Sharon, I can't wait to meet her. Then the horrible nightmare comes true, here comes cashier from hell Sharon, and now she is a manager!!! I about fell on the floor. Hopefully since she is a new manager she will work a lot of nights which is when I don't shop at CVS.

That's all for now......take my advice: go spend your ECBs, return the items and get your hard earned ECBs put onto a gift card.

I heard a rumor a couple weeks ago that there would be no ECBs in May and I didn't think it would be possible.

I had my shopping trip at CVS all planned out for today. I opened my paper today and checked the ad before walking out the door and noticed that the rumor is true. There are no ECB offers in the ad.

Please let me know if you know when ECBs will be back. I really hope that my hard earned ECBs will not expire before ECBs are back.

It would have been real nice for CVS to let California shoppers know about this in advance. I'm thinking of calling corporate tomorrow.

My husband and I tried Iron Chef which is near Ontario Mills, we loved it!! The food was excellent! We got lettuce wraps as an appetizer and honey walnut shrimp, sesame chicken and garlic green beans for the entree. Each entree came with our choice of white rice, brown rice, fried rice or chow mein. We had enough left overs for 4 lunches!!

Always make sure to read the fine print of the certificates you are purchasing as their restrictions vary. Some aren't good on weekends, some require you to purchase $35 worth of food, etc.

This is confirmed for So Cal (by me), the skintimate limit at CVS is 2!!!

When the ad came out, the deal was buy one at $3.49 get an ECB for $3.49 limit 1.

Now the limit is 2!!! I tried this today. I bought one more, used my $3.49 ecb from the first one and paid $0 OOP. I was expecting to pay tax, but the second item was completely free. If your store is out, get a rain check for the second one!!!

I jut got the renewal notice for the registration on our truck today. We owe $635 for a 2006 Ford truck. Last year we paid $491 and I choked on that, now its $635!!!

How are already struggling Californians supposed to budget for this? Especially my husband and I who are both public service employees who are taking furlough days and not allowed overtime??

If registration were groceries, it would be 3 months worth on my budget!

Are you an XM radio subscriber? You might have noticed that listening to XM radio online has been cancelled unless you pay $3 a month.

I listen to XM radio online daily and I was really disappointed by this due to my frugal nature. (I know, having XM in the first place isn't a frugal thing to do, but Mr. Cheapskate is not frugal and getting him to conform to my frugal nature is a daily struggle)

I called today to complain about this and they gave me 6 months of free online listening. Yay, problem solved. Try calling if you are an XM subscriber!

Bzz agent report

Are you a bzz agent? If not, you should join! Bzz agent is a word of mouth marketing network. They give you products to try, you try the product, share information about the product with people you know and then report back to the website. When you are trying a product, you are participating in a "campaign." During the campaign you are supposed to submit two reports on how you shared info on the product with people that you know. In exchange for the report you get 50 points put into your mypoints account!!

I am currently participating in my 4th campaign. I am trying Glade Sense and Spray. Here is what they sent me:

I have been using the Glade Sense and Spray for a couple of days now and I really like it! Here are some things that I like:

The unit automatically sprays when it senses that someone is in the room
Once it sprays it locks itself for 30 minutes to prevent overspray and conserve the refill
You can also press a button on the front of the unit to spray freshener even if it is in lock mode
This is great for cheapskates because the unit doesn't spray when no one is around to smell it so it isn't wasteful.
I put the unit in my most frequented restroom. Guests won't be embarrassed by having to spray an aerosol can.

If you can get a deal on this, you should definitely try it!

Other campaigns I have participated in;

Chilis guiltless grill: received 4 coupons for free entrees at Chilis. All of the entrees my family and I tried were excellent and we stayed on our diet :)
Covergirl lip stain: received full size lip stain. I'm not a big lipstick user but I still liked the product and use it occasionally.
Pledge multi surface cleaner: received full bottle to try. I really like this product, I'm still using it often!

I bought a couple of these over the summer when they were having an 80% off sale. So far we have used one. We went to a restaurant we had never tried before. The food was pretty good and just as we were discussing that we probably wouldn't return because the food wasn't "out of this world," my husband spotted a roach on the wall right next to me!! That sealed the deal, we're not going back but I haven't lost hope in finding a good restaurant to buy a certificate from.

I just bought four certificates for $8. This time I chose restaurants that we have been to before. I almost bought a couple certificates to restaurants that I wanted to try but I checked their health department rating and decided not to, I don't want to chance another roach encounter!

Check out the website, this is an awesome deal. Next to the restaurant you will see "rules." Make sure you agree with them before you buy the certificate. For example, some restaurants don't let you use the certificates on weekends, some have a minimum purchase requirement, etc.

If you try something new, hopefully you will have a better experience then I did.

Dial hand soap is on sale for $0.88 February 4-10. There was a 35 cent coupon in the 1/4 Smart Source. This would make it $0.18. Too bad they only double one coupon per order.

Ocean Spray Cran juice is on sale for $1.97. There was a $0.55 coupon in the 12/7 Red Plum and a $1.00 coupon in the 1/11 Red Plum. So $1 for cran juice.

I am beginning to hate my neighborhood CVS. They are very rude and scrutinize every purchase that I make and every coupon that I use, it is becoming very frustrating!! Anyway, this is what I got today:

Here is the secret: When you make a purchase using ecbs and the $5 CVS Duracell coupon, the ecbs won't go through. The cashier says "it will only take $5" or whatever... have them scan your card again! I did it today and it worked. The manager (Diego the $#%*) scanned my card at the beginning. At the end he said, "sorry you can't use your ecbs." I asked him to scan my card again, then scan the ecbs. It worked and he said "is that your little trick?" and then when my receipt printed out he looked it over for a long time. I swear he thinks I'm robbing him, but I'm just a smarter shopper then him.

Another secret: Inland Empire shoppers, the Rialto store doesn't have 99 cent greeting cards (except Valentine for kids, my mom and I checked almost every card) but the San Bernardino store on University has a whole 99 cent section that is pretty much untouched. I usually buy the 99 cent ones at Walmart but these ones are much better quality!!
